TK5HP is located within the latitude 27°30’ 25” N and 27° 31’48” N, and longitude 87°47’01”E and 87°48’33” E in Taplejung District of Province 1 of Nepal. The project area lies within the Phaktanglung Rural Municipality and most of the project structures follows the right bank of the Tamor River.

The headworks area of the project is located near the Lelep Village, located about 300 m downstream from the confluence of the Ghunsa and Tamor River. The powerhouse lies on the right bank of the Tamor River near the Phembu Village.

Project Accessibility
Via road:
A 782 km long blacktopped road connects Kathmandu to Phungling, Taplejung.
The TK-5 Project is accessible through earthen road track which is constructed by the Government as a part of the Phungling-Olangchungola highway. There is an alternative route from Bahanande to Project headworks via Mitlung and Tapethok. A 2 km long road needs to be constructed to access Powerhouse from Headworks along the right bank of the river. Also, additional roads need to be constructed to access the adit portal areas and other construction facilities.
Via Suketar airport:
Suketar is the domestic airport of Taplejung district. From Kathmandu it is about 1-hour flight to Suketar. From Suketar, Phungling is about 11 km drive on a blacktopped road. From Phungling the route is similar as mentioned above.
Via Bhadrapur airport:
Kathmandu to Bhadrapur is about 1-hour flight. Bhadraur is connected to Charali of Jhapa via 12.2 km long black topped road. Phungling can be reached from Charali via 241 km long Mechi highway. From Phungling the route mentioned above must be followed.
Via Biratnagar airport:
Kathmandu to Biratnagar is about 35 minute’s flight. Biratnagar is connected to Dharan via 41.1 km long black topped road. From Dharan, Mulghat can be reached via 35.3 km long black topped road, from where Jorsal can be reached via 100 km long earthen Tamor corridor. Finally, Phungling can be reached from Jorsal via 94.2 km long black topped road. From Phungling, the route mentioned above must be followed.
